This community, 34 miles northeast of Naples, is the center of Collier County's agribusiness. During harvest time in the winter, Immokalee's population of 16,000 swells to more than 30,000 when migrant workers move in to work in the fields. Immokalee, which comes from the Seminole Indian word meaning "my home,'' was settled in the late 1800s. Those who like to gamble flock to the Seminole Indian reservation's Seminole Gaming Palace of Immokalee, located at 506 1st Ave. S., Immokalee. The casino opened in February 1994 at 506 1st Ave. S., Immokalee. For information, call 656-1313. |
